An update from TAWREF Published: 12 Jul 2022

We are delighted to share an update from TAWREF, who have recently completed building their 138th home since 2012!

Mama Mwijuma became a widow in 2017 and since then, her family were made to leave the room they rented after being unable to pay rent. Athman, her youngest son, is severely disabled and Mwijuma spends most of her time at home caring for him meaning she cannot take part in any casual labour outside her home.

TAWREF visited her family and promised to build her a new home. After a month of construction work, Mama Mwijuma and her three sons Rajabu, Baraka and Athman are safe and happy in their new home.

Led by Executive Director, Dafrosa Itemba, TAWREF board members and staff have also fundraised for a new pit latrine, and neighbours have offered to add electricity and furniture to the house too.

But that's not all..."We are planning to construct two more houses after the rainy season. Long live this partnership!"
