Wednesday 21st June

We started our day normally with breakfast at Berea and got ready to go to Fuka to visit the Parish and Vocational School for orphans and local children.

After a 45 minute journey, we arrived at the school and were led into a classroom where the Head Teacher spoke to us about the purpose of the school, and translated what one of the teachers was saying. The school provides a home and education to orphaned and deprived children within the community, and to offers a brighter future for young people who have found themselves in difficult and vulnerable situations. As always, the Tanzanians were extremely friendly and expressed their gratitude to us on numerous occasions.

After the short presentation we played outside with around 150 children who were staying at the school over the holidays. We split up into different groups and played games such as duck duck goose, blew bubbles, played football, sang various British songs, and danced along. The children threw themselves into the games and were all very confident and excited. An hour later, after being taken on lots of mini tours by the children, they were dismissed and we ate our packed lunches. Soon after, we split into groups and helped to renovate a previously constructed Vine Trust Children's Home (The Sarah Hardie House). The bedrooms were fairly basic, although in extremely good condition, with two sets of bunkbeds in each room.

We headed back to Berea for showers and to get ready for a meal out at Deli Chez (restaurant), where we all chose a variety of different foods. The evening was filled with laughter and good food, so we were all happy and eager to get to our beds.
