Day #1 - Monday

On our first day we had a team briefing in the morning, followed by a visit to the office of Tanzania Women Research Foundation (TAWREF), one of Vine Trust’s local partners in Tanzania, for an eye-opening presentation. After purchasing a few gifts for family and friends back home, we went to Moshi Christian Children’s Centre, where we played football and games with the children, using some of the donations we brought to Tanzania with us. It was a good introduction to what we will be doing over the next couple of weeks. - Freddie R and Ellie W

Day #2 - Tuesday

Today we went to our worksite where we met Theresa, the grandmother for whom we are building a new home. We started by digging trenches for the building’s foundations. Niall took photos of our progress and we dug about 1 metre into the soil. We made a chain and passed buckets of soil from the middle of the worksite to the edge of the plot. After a busy day of home-building, we left the worksite and headed to a supermarket to pick up a few extra supplies. We then returned to Berea College, where we had spaghetti and vegetable stew for dinner. Once we had eaten, we joined Earlston High School for a short Swahili lesson.  - Ande M and Niall R
