Vine Trust: Connecting People to Make a Difference

Centre For Global Citizenship

Our Centre for Global Citizenship is based onboard a barge in Leith, Edinburgh.
The resource includes a small cinema, interactive exhibition and flexible workshop space.  It is a first class resource for school groups, teachers’ receptions and other youth organisations to interact with global issues.

We can deliver all the presentations listed on the Global Citizenship page to upper primary classes and all secondary year groups.   We also run day conferences for senior secondary groups on:

  •  World Poverty
  •  Education for All
  •  Maternal Health
  •  Global Health and Wellbeing

These are multi-media based conferences with examples from Tanzania and Peru.  There will be times of discussion, group work and a creative workshop as the group engage in the issues and are challenged to make a difference.

We do not charge school or youth groups to visit the barge.  Please get in touch to discuss booking your school to come onboard!

Vine Trust is passionate about facilitating young people to raise their horizons and develop a ‘can do’ attitude to some of the world’s most pressing issues.

Centre for Global Citizenship - The Venue!

Beginning its life as an oil tanker, the barge has been renovated and recycled to become a Centre for Global Citizenship which provides a unique and inspiring location and space for young people, schools and youth groups to engage in global issues.

The Glass room has a built in sound system, projector and screen, and its versatility makes it perfect for a wide range of functions.  The Education Room has a smart board and projector as well as global activities for children and young people.  Our cinema is a brilliant and unique facility to educate, train or for entertainment purposes.  The Board Room can cater for about 10 around its table and has a large television screen available for video and presentations – a perfect room for group work.

The barge has two toilets as well as one with disabled facilities.  It also has an access ramp as well as a wheelchair lift to allow movement between the two floors on the vessel.  We have a full risk assessment document for the barge that we can send you.

The barge is a short walk from Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre, and is easily accessible by bus from the centre of the city. There are plenty of parking spaces for those who want to use their own vehicle or come by private coach or mini-bus.
