Day #4 - Thursday (15th June)

Thursday was one of my favourite days so far! It started off with a late breakfast at 8am - something which was definitely appreciated. We then spent the majority of the day at Fuka, a local school and children's home, where we had the wonderful opportunity to play with what seemed like hundreds of children. We met so many people and got to hear their stories during the short time we had with them. After the games finished, we helped paint the children’s home – "Sarah Hardie House". It felt so good to help with even the smallest of things. That evening we went out for a meal. I had pizza, which was tasty, and the live entertainment topped off an amazing day. - Cameron

Day #6 - Saturday (17th June)

Saturday was a full day of work at Mama Theresia’s house, 15 minutes from our accommodation at Berea. Most of the work was carrying buckets to the river in order to fill them – a job made easier by the local kids lending a hands.

At Sia and Indiaelia’s house we spent the day levelling the floors. It was extremely hot but the fundis occupied us by singing songs and we even sang them some Scottish songs. At tea we sang Happy Birthday to Cameron. - Eve and Claudia

Day #7 - Sunday (18th June)

6.30am in the big BBC (Berea Bible College). Cameron’s alarm goes off which awakens Thomas, Ryan, and Niall... but not Cameron!!

We were up early to attend a church service, and everyone was very warm and welcoming. The music was something special, with the choir belting out the most beautiful songs you could imagine. After church, we visited the Kilimanjaro National Park - the view is spectacular. We then visited Kimashuku Orphanage, where we played football, blew bubbles and took lots of photos! We had a great time. - Cameron and Ryan

Day #8 - Monday (19th June)

Monday was another busy day at the worksite, collecting water from the river as it flows beneath the green trees. After a tough afternoon of digging, broken up by games with the local kids, we headed out for dinner at Deli Chez. Most of us opted for the ‘simply spectacular steak sizzler’ (as it is known by the people of Moshi) and comes highly recommended. Mr Stutt washed his down with a classic strawberry falooda before the night was through, and a good time was had by all. - Sam and Amy

Day #9 - Tuesday (20th June)

Today all 24 of us went to the same worksite to give the neighbours of our other family space and time to grieve after the loss of a family member. Our first task was to move the bricks closer to the house to make the wall construction easier for the fundis. We then sieved sand to get all the stones out in preparation for mixing the cement. After that, we used pick axes and spades to level out the garden surrounding the house. - Katie and Emily

Day #10 - Wednesday (21st June)

Today was our last day on the worksites. It’s been tiring work, however, it has been rewarding and we will miss the people. The team on Site 1 (belonging to Bibi Theresia, Calister and Japhet) were moving bricks, fetching water, making cement and forming numerous volunteer chains. At Site 2 ( where we were building for Indiaelia and Sia), the team were moving even more stones, making cement and also levelling the ground around the house. We spent some time before dinner tidying rooms, packing suitcases and getting ready for safari tomorrow.  Everyone is buzzing, but let’s just hope we are lucky enough to see the big 5! - Grace and Rebekah
