Ivano's story

Ivano and another boy, two street children, heard a party in a flat they were passing at Midnight one night. A Woman inside the flat saw the street boys hanging about outside and screamed. A man pulled out a gun and shot at them. Ivano was hit, fell and was left lying bleeding. At about 2am a policeman came by and Ivano's friend called for help. The policeman reportedly kicked Ivano into the gutter and said “You deserve to die like a dog”. At 4am a taxi driver stopped and picked the boy up and took him to a hospital. Staff there told the driver to “Go and get this big list of drugs” (they didn’t want to treat the child). The taxi driver, however, was determined to help and went round all the local pharmacies until he obtained all the drugs required. The hospital then reluctantly treated Ivano. The driver drove off never to be seen again. Today, Ivano has a home, a job and a young family.
