Camalito's Story

It is a sad truth that the lives of street children are often viewed as "cheap" or expendable. Several children who have had contact with SUPeru over the years have been killed on the streets. For example, one boy from Lima called Camalito picked the pocket of a passer-by on a street corner closeby SUPeru's centre. The victim chased the boy (in itself a natural reaction) then several people joined the chase. By the time Camalito had reached the Sheraton Hotel (approximately 150 yards away) the crowd chasing the child had grown. He was chased onto a roundabout and kicked and beaten. His skull was crushed on a drain and he was left to die, yards from the Sheraton Grand hotel. What motivates people to do this sort of thing and to see a child as expendable? Camalito's desperately sad story is evidence that it’s often a nasty world. Here in the midst, SUPeru and VineTrust are at work.
